(KNSI) — CentraCare and the University of Minnesota are holding a free workshop Saturday for 50 students from rural communities interested in applying to the medical school.
It will cover the ins and outs of the application process, including interview prep, working with a physician mentor, and writing their personal statements. The students will receive help from CentraCare and U of M med school experts, have their questions answered and receive feedback.
CentraCare says rural communities around the state are experiencing a shortage of physicians. To address this, they are partnering with the U of M med school to develop a regional campus here. The school is getting ready to welcome 24 students next fall.
It has been the dream of CentraCare CEO Dr. Ken Holman, who, when he was hired in 2015, listed a medical school in central Minnesota as one of his goals.
A $50 million fundraising campaign is underway.
