(KNSI) – Thursday marks the beginning of the end for Crafts Direct in Waite Park.

The store is holding a liquidation sale of all merchandise and store furnishings ahead of its impending closure. The bulk of the fixtures and office items will still be needed until they close up shop for good, according to a post on the Facebook page.

Crafts Direct has been in business for 33 years, but the owners say the current financial climate and shifts in shopping trends are insurmountable challenges to overcome.

The notice on social media says the store is more than just a store to the Schlect families and the community. It has becme a “beacon of creativity and inspiration” since the doors opened July 5th, 1990, and it has “become synonymous with quality products, creative events and community investment.”

They said none of it would have been possible without the “unwavering support” of their loyal customers and the “dedication of our hardworking staff.” The Schlect families extended their “deepest gratitude” to their customers over the years for their support and patronage, it has “been an honor and privilage” and “we will cherish the memories we have made together.”

No official date for permanent closure was given.
