(KNSI) – St. Cloud has approved its first park improvements covered by a voter-approved levy.
The city council sanctioned spending $1,714,653 for a facelift to thirteen parks.
The park and recreation department will oversee the installation of splash pads at Centennial Park, 10-10 Park, and Haws Park. The equipment for the three pads is estimated to cost $460,602. The three recreationl spaces are also getting picnic tables and benches. Open-air park shelters are in the future at two of the green spaces.
Ten neighborhood parks will get new playgrounds: Crestview Park, Diocese Park, Knights of Columbus Park, Kiwanis Park, Pioneer Park, Prairie Park, Ridgewood Park, Signal Hills Park, West River Meadows Park, and Westwind Park.
Work on many projects is expected to start this spring and be finished in 2025.
In November 2022, the measure passed with 64.84% saying yes. St. Cloud will make $20 million worth of improvements over the next three years, and the money will be paid back over the next two decades. The park levy started being collected from residents on January 1st.
