(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Police Department is looking for a few good men and women from the community to serve in a support capacity.

The department will hold an information open house to recruit new members for its SCPD Reserve Unit. The team is a volunteer group whose work is essential for community engagement and special events.

Some reserve officers’ tasks include traffic control during parades and other gatherings, acting as role players for the new officer academy training, and assisting in community engagement events through the Community OutPost program (COP House).

New reserve members are given uniforms and equipment and trained in self-defense, pepper spray use, handcuffing, traffic control, radio communications, de-escalation, and other areas as needed.

ROs are expected to attend monthly training on the 4th Tuesday from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Applicants do not have to have ambitions of becoming a full-time officer but will need to undergo a background check.

The informational meeting is Tuesday, April 23rd, at 5:30 PM at the police department.
