(KNSI) – The GREAT Theatre is ready to get footloose and fancy-free to raise money for its youth education programs.
An 80’s Prom Party is planned for Tuesday. It starts at 5:00 p.m. at The Regency in St. Cloud with signature cocktails being served and a pre-event photo session. The program begins at 5:45 with a seated dinner.
A reception with desserts follows at the Paramount Center for the Arts before GREAT Theatre puts on a special Tuesday showing of Footloose. If you do attend, GREAT Theatre has a special style guide on how best to fit in with the 80’s theme. They say big hair, ruffled shirts, and acid washed denim are all encouraged.
Tickets to the reception and show are $75. Packages that include dinner start at $250 and include at least two people. A link to register is here.
Footloose is a musical based on the 1984 film starring Kevin Bacon. Ren McCormack is a Chicago native who turns the small town of Bomont on its head when he moves there during high school. Bomont doesn’t allow alcohol or dancing after the son of the influential reverend died in a car crash five years earlier, coming home from a party.
Ren and his new friends push back and hold a senior prom for the high school. The film was the seventh-highest grossing movie of 1984. It was translated into a musical play in 1998.
