(KNSI) – A nonprofit started by the father of a young man who died from suicide has teamed with CentraCare to spread the word about dialing 988.

CentraCare Foundation

The three digits will connect someone with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. The Jackson Roeder Memorial Fund and the Central Minnesota Suicide Prevention Coalition designed, printed and distributed 77 banners to area schools and community spaces throughout the region. Jackson died by suicide in February 2017, and his father, Scott Roeder, and his family continue to advocate for suicide awareness and prevention in his memory.

You can see the banners hanging in Albany Schools, Annandale, Becker High School, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa District, Big Lake High School, Eden Valley-Watkins, Foley High School, Holdingford, Kimball, Melrose, Monticello, New London-Spicer, Paynesville, Rocori High School, Royalton, Sartell, Sauk Centre, Sauk Rapids, the College of Saint Benedict, St. Cloud Cathedral High School, the Lincoln Center, Place of Hope, St. Cloud Rainbow Wellness Center, St. Cloud Area School District, St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud Stand Down, St. Cloud Technical College, St. Cloud YMCA, St. John’s Preparatory school, and Saint John’s University.

Like 911, when a person hits 988, they will be connected to someone who can help those struggling with mental health issues any time of day or night.
