(KNSI) – The Stearns County Parks system has two family-friendly events coming up over the next couple of months.

On April 8th, a Solar Eclipse Viewing Party is scheduled from noon to 4:00 p.m. at Mississippi River County Park. A limited supply of safety glasses will be provided to catch the total solar eclipse. Viewing in Minnesota will peak just after 2:00 p.m. with 70% of coverage. The path of totality stretches from Dallas, Texas, to northern Maine.

There will also be fun activities, including bags, disc golf, and music. No registration is required. The eclipse will be the last one in the country until 2044. An eclipse occurs when the moon’s orbit causes it to pass between the Earth and the sun, blocking it out. It will appear as if it were late in the evening rather than the middle of the day.

May 18th is the annual Kids to Parks Day at Quarry Park. It is set for 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and more details will be released soon.
