(KNSI) — The Minnesota State Patrol says it responded to almost 300 crashes and spinouts during this latest bout of snow.

From 7:30 a.m. Monday to 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, the state patrol recorded 296 crashes and spinouts. There were 15 injury crashes, and one of them was fatal. It happened Monday morning on Highway 12 near Litchfield. A 51-year-old woman died at the scene. Authorities say they had 15 jackknifed semis in the 24 hour period.

From 12:00 a.m. Sunday to 7:00 a.m. Monday, there were more than 600 crashes and spinouts and at least 14 jackknifed semi trucks.

Road conditions can be found anytime at the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s road condition information hotline by dialing 511 or clicking here.

The area was under a winter storm warning and a winter weather advisory as heavy snow, rain, freezing rain and sleet blanketed Minnesota starting early Sunday morning. The system is expected to exit off to the east through the day today. Forecasters say the sun should appear Wednesday and Thursday before another chance of rain and snow comes Friday.
