(KNSI) – Registration is open for one of central Minnesota’s most popular marathons.

Teams and individuals can sign up now for the annual CentraCare M-Physicians Orthopedics Earth Day Run, which draws nearly 3,000 people to St. Cloud.

The races take place April 19th and 20th in the downtown area. Friday is the Microbiologics 1K run. On Saturday, there’s the Bernick’s half marathon, the marathon relay, and the Granite Partners 5K walk/run. People can also enjoy the health and wellness expo at the River’s Edge Convention Center.

Race spokesperson Heather Rockford was a guest of KNSI’s Bob Hughes and says nonprofits showing their support in cheer zones can bring home some cash for their organizations. “We pick nine teams. Every team that is picked and shows up that day gets $500 for the nonprofit that they’re there with. And then, we have all the racers and participants of the half marathon vote on their favorite cheers zone and that favorite cheer zone, will get an additional $1,000.”

After the races, there will be an awards ceremony and live music.

Rockford highlighted a change for fans, “This year, the parking lot right next to the convention center is going to be closed to the public. And we’re going to have coffee trucks on Friday and Saturday, and then a food truck each day.”

Other changes include moving the kid’s course to St. Germain Street and the start line in front of the convention center instead of behind it.
