(KNSI) – Registration is now open for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ I Can! outdoor skills program.

The I Can! programs are aimed at beginners and families to show people how to camp, shoot a bow and arrow, paddle, mountain bike, and fish. The programs are free or may have a low fee attached. All equipment is provided.

The Archery in the Parks program gives hands-on instruction from certified archers to teach shooting a bow and arrow. That is for ages eight and up.

The I Can Camp! program involves a one- or two-night stay in a state park campground or group camping area. Campers get a tent, air mattresses, cookstove, and other gear. DNR staff is with the group day and night for hands-on instruction and questions.

The I Can Fish! program is for new and first-time anglers. Participants will receive hands-on instruction from experienced fishermen and a small tackle box to take home.

I Can Mountain Bike! takes place at the Cuyuna Country State Recreation area in Ironton. The DNR says it is like riding a bike. As long as you know how to ride a bike on pavement, you can tackle mountain biking no problem.

The I Can Paddle! program is for beginners to canoeing or kayaking. Learn paddling skills from experienced guides while getting out on the state’s lakes and rivers. Canoes, kayaks, paddles, and life jackets are provided. Classes are also small, so there is hands-on instruction.
