(KNSI) — The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is implementing burning restrictions in several counties, including the St. Cloud area.
Starting Monday, March 18th, the open burning of vegetative debris will not be allowed in Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns and Wright Counties, among others. The risk of wildfires is extremely high due to our unusually warm weather and exceptionally dry conditions. No burn permits for brush or yard waste will be issued until further notice.
“This year, we’ve seen an early start to our wildfire season due to exceptionally warm winter temperatures and less than half the average snowfall across much of the state,” said Karen Harrison, DNR wildfire prevention specialist. “Spring burning restrictions help reduce the number of wildfires, especially those caused by debris burning.”
Harrison recommends chipping or composting yard waste or taking it to a collection site.
