(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is set to show off how Sand Dunes State Forest has something for everyone.
An open house is scheduled for Thursday, April 4th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Big Lake Middle School Student Center.
The state forest dates back to 1945. It is over 11,000 acres, with a 36-unit campground and a specialized recreation area. It is filled year-round with fun for all seasons, anything from summer horseback riding and fishing to fall hunting and winter snowmobiling.
Assistant Regional Forestry Manager Matt Wappler says, “This state forest has a unique mix of ecosystems, and at this open house, the public can learn more about how DNR staff manages the forest to maintain great recreation opportunities, valuable timber, and abundant wildlife habitat.”
There will be a presentation on prescribed burns, and other maintenance actions planned for the next twelve months. Sand Dunes State Forest is located about five miles north of Big Lake in Sherburne County.
