(KNSI) — Monday’s warm weather was one for the record books.
The National Weather Service says St. Cloud hit 68 at 3:35 p.m., beating the old record of 62 set in 2016. It also bested the forecast high by three degrees.
The old record of 68 may also be on the line today as the forecast calls for conditions similar to yesterday.
The normal temp this time of the year is 36.
Forecasters are concerned about the fire danger, however. Very low relative humidity values of 15% to 25%, combined with northwest winds around 10 to 15 miles an hour, will result in elevated fire weather conditions today and tomorrow.
Fires could develop quickly and spread due to the tinder dry vegetation and higher winds.
The forecast does call for cooler temperatures starting Wednesday and rain possible on Thursday and Saturday, which could help alleviate some of the concern. The eight to 14 day temperature outlook shows a cooler airmass moving in. Our normal temperatures are on the increase now, so the area has the chance to see below-normal temperatures next week.
