(KNSI) – Investigators are still trying to determine what caused a fire that left a popular resort on the north shore in ashes.
On February 6th, fast-moving flames destroyed the historic Lutsen Resort Lodge. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety State Fire Marshal’s office continues to investigate the blaze and will start digging through the debris on Monday, March 11th.
Officials are trying to confirm where the fire started and what caused it.
“Lutsen community members will notice crews coming and going from the fire scene,” said State Fire Marshal Daniel Krier. “We are dedicated to preserving the integrity of the investigation, and we ask people to give us the space we need to complete this work.”
The scene is considered a safety risk due to the unstable fire debris, and public access is restricted.
The fire marshal didn’t give a timeline for how long the investigation will take.
