(KNSI) — A major road improvement project will snarl traffic along Highway 23 starting in mid May.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will work on 12 miles of roadway from Milaca to east of Ogilvie. Crews will resurface the road and shoulders, realign 100th Avenue/Mille Lacs County Road 101 east of Milaca and install left turn lanes on 23. Left turn lanes will also be installed on 23 at 90th Avenue/Mille Lacs County Road 144.

Detours will be in place while drainage structures are installed. Drivers will have to deal with lane closures, alternate one-way traffic, flaggers, and following a pilot car.
