(KNSI) – After a potential homeless shelter in St. Cloud had its request for grant funding rejected, the city council is preparing to dish out some loot.

Avivo Village applied for $196,000 from the city’s Community Development Block Grant program. The money would help design a $9 million 56-bed facility on an acre of land near a drainage pond by Costco. While the staff approved the measure, earlier this week the planning commission rejected the request when it proposed how the funds should be split up to the council.

During Monday’s city council meeting, the members will consider giving Avivo $232,000 in unused CDBG funds from 2022 and 2023 to design the building. The unused money comes from projects that didn’t progress as planned.

The agenda item is listed in the city council consent agenda. These items are considered routine and are approved all at once unless a council member asks to have the item pulled.

The meeting is at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
