(KNSI) – A presidential candidate from Minnesota is suspending his campaign.
Congressman Dean Phillips lost every state in which he competed. On Wednesday over “X,” Phillips announced that he is ending his run for the White House, stating, “I ran for Congress in 2018 to resist Donald Trump. I was trapped in the Capitol in 2021 because of Donald Trump, and I ran for President in 2024 to resist Donald Trump again because Americans were demanding an alternative, and democracy demanded options.
But the alternative is not me. And it is clear that Joe Biden is OUR candidate and OUR opportunity to demonstrate what type of country America is and intends to be.”
Phillips says he is endorsing Biden. He thanked his staff and urged his supporters to throw their weight behind Biden.
The 55-year-old multimillionaire is one of the richest members of Congress. He built his Oval Office bid around calls for a new generation of Democratic leadership while spending freely from his fortune. But the little-known congressman ultimately failed to appeal to the party’s voters.
Phillips was the only elected Democrat to challenge Biden for the presidency.
