(KNSI) – Kids in central Minnesota are encouraged to pick up a book, and parents are encouraged to support their local library during National Reading Month.
With the start of spring, the Great River Regional Library system is using the Beanstack app to help children explore their imaginations and get lost in the pages of a book. Library officials say they want to plant the seeds for good reading habits as we get into the growing season. Communications and Development Coordinator Breanne Fruth explained to KNSI News the app helps make reading fun. “The Beanstack app and challenges are a great opportunity to track and log what you’re reading. And to collect fun badges throughout the month.”
Sticking to the springtime theme, each of the library system’s 32 branches is raising money through the Locally Grown campaign in March. “The campaign keeps donations 100% within the branch library donors choosing. And each library selects a specific wish item or program and a campaign goal.”
For example, the St. Cloud Public Library is fundraising to add a couple of try-it-yourself kits. They can include activities like pickleball rackets, balls, materials on how to play, and adult and children’s snowshoes. The money will also support a magic and comedy show. Waite Park is fundraising for read-along picture books.
She says many of these opportunities are more expensive and outside the daily budget.
You can donate to the Locally Grown campaign online or in person at your favorite library.
The Beanstack App and the Locally Grown campaign take place from March 1st through the 31st.
