Domus Diaper Drive Easily Exceeds Goal

(KNSI) – Lenten generosity leaves Domus Transitional Housing loaded with Luvs.

Officials at Catholic Charities Emergency Services say this year’s diaper drive was a swaddling success. They have been hard at work tallying the haul over the weekend. The final count came to 5,626 diapers, 2,316 wipes and nine hand-knit baby hats.

Thrivent hosted the drive with collections taking place inside the office or at a drop box near the main entrance. Everyone who gave was treated to a cup of joe from Kinder Coffee Lab or a $2 coupon for a specialty drink.

Domus Program Supervisor Carli Cordie told KNSI News before the drive started that the goal was 5,000 diapers, which the group soared past. Domus is one of the few transitional housing programs that allow mothers to keep their children with them. It provides a living space for those putting things back together after battling addiction, domestic violence, or other hardship.

The number of diapers collected is enough to tide the organization over for months. It will allow the moms to save for other goals, such as a down payment for an apartment or new home. Unlike many necessities, diapers are not eligible for purchase through food stamps or the Women, Infant, and Child (WIC) program.

The drive was specifically for sizes three to six, which applies to kids who weigh roughly 15 pounds or more.
