(KNSI) — The St. Cloud Crush boys’ hockey team are on to the section semifinals as a seven seed after upsetting Roseau Tuesday night.
Head Coach Pete Matanich is thrilled for his squad. “Oh, it was great for the boys! They worked extremely hard all year. It was very deserving of how we’ve been playing of late, the last five games of our regular season.”
The Crush were outshot 43-10, including 14-2 in the final period when they were able to pull ahead late. They charged past the Rams, 2-1.
Matanich praised goaltender Ben Glaesman as the glue of the team. “Ben’s been a great goalie, great leader. He’s kind of a quiet guy. But he competes extremely hard…upbeat all the time, never gets down, never gets negative. Being a two-year starter for us, it’s just been great to see him come around and play some of his best hockey he’s played here down the stretch for us.”
Glaesman turned back 42 shots against Roseau Tuesday. Next up for the Crush is a Saturday matchup with another underdog. The semifinal features a rare 6/7 tilt. The Buffalo Bison and Crush met in December and skated to a 2-2 tie.
Puck drop is 7:00 p.m.
