(KNSI) – Waite Park City Council will have a special meeting on Monday to consider a new car dealership.

The ownership group behind St. Cloud Hyundai wants to adjust the Planned Unit Development for the property to add a Genesis dealership on the eastern end of the current parking lot. Genesis is Hyundai’s premium brand, similar to Lincoln for Ford, Cadillac for General Motors, Lexus for Toyota, or Acura for Honda.

The existing dealership is already getting a facelift, which was approved by the council. When that item came before the group, it was not yet known if a Genesis space could be added inside the revamped showroom or if it would need a separate building.

The proposed facility would be two stories. It would include over 9,000 square feet, with about half going towards a showroom, plus sales and office space. It would have three service stalls attached as well.

The new complex would have entrances off 10th Avenue South and 2nd and 3rd Street South.

The council will also consider a new three-year agreement struck with the police officers’ union. If approved, it would retroactively take effect back to January 1st.

The session begins at 4:30 p.m. inside council chambers.
