(KNSI) – A dispute between two neighbors allegedly escalated into an assault Monday night.
Just before 7:30, St. Cloud police officers responded to a gun shot inside an apartment complex in the 300 block of 4th Avenue South. A 63-year-old man was hurt when a resident of a nearby unit hit him in the head with a handgun. The injury was minor and he declined medical treatment. It is believed the gun went off accidentally during the scuffle. The bullet did not strike anyone.
The police have arrested a 36-year-old man. A press release says he was not at the victim’s apartment when officers first arrived but they were able to talk with him in short order and he went willingly with police when he was apprehended.
He has been taken to the Stearns County Jail. Officers were on scene until Tuesday afternoon, executing a search warrant and collecting evidence.
KNSI News typically does not identify suspects until they have been formally charged.
