(KNSI) – When you think of a cappella, the 90s may not be the first decade coming to mind.
That will change July 23rd at The Ledge Amphitheater in Waite Park. Nine-member group Straight No Chaser formed during that period while attending Indiana University, and they’ll try to channel the unique mix of alternative and grunge rock, airy pop tunes, and powerful, soulful ballads of the era into the perfect nostalgic performance.
Special guest for the show is Lisa Loeb, who will help the group with “Stay (I Missed You),” which took over the radio in 1994. Go back to when Newt and Bill defined our politics, wrestling was bigger than ever, and Minnesota actually notched a professional sports championship.
The last 20 years have seen an a cappella renaissance, and Straight No Chaser, in particular, has helped define it. They have sold over three million albums, and their stream count is in the billions. It all started with a new spin on Christmas classics. The group has branched out to yacht rock in recent years, and now the 1990s.
A special presale for tickets is this Thursday with the general public able to snag them on Friday. More information is available here.
