(KNSI) – A Stearns County man has been recognized for his decades of service to keeping the past alive for future generations.

David Ebnet was awarded the Stearns History Musuem Zapp Historian Award. He was the executive director there for 24 years, from 1984 to 2008.

According to the museum board, Ebnet was instrumental in starting the Century Farm program, internships with local colleges, and the museum’s national accreditation with the American Alliance of Museums. He also worked on the planning for the current building in Heritage Park, which turns 40 years old this spring.

The Zapp Historian Award is given annually to recognize people who significantly contribute to preserving, interpreting, or promoting Stearns County history. It can be a single achievement or a lifetime of contributions.

The community is invited to celebrate with Ebnet at the 40th-anniversary party at the museum on Saturday, June 29th, from 1:00-3:00 p.m.

The award is named in honor of the Zapp family.
