(KNSI) – Thrivent Financial and Catholic Charities are tackling the terrible twos with a multi-week diaper drive.

Domus Transitional Housing Program Supervisor Carli Cordie tells KNSI News to qualify for help, women must be homeless. Many have young children, and Cordie says for a mom who is fleeing domestic violence or recovering from addiction, offsetting costs like diapers makes a huge impact by allowing them to focus on long-term financial goals such as “Saving up for housing and paying off any past due debts that they might have, or getting the bigger necessity things as well.”

The goal is to collect 5,000 diapers. Cordie says the program goes through thousands of diapers every few months because of its popularity.

She explains why. “Domus is one of the few housing opportunities that is transitional, that allows to have their children. So, we do see people from kind of all over the place trying to make St. Cloud their home now.”

Cordie says moms can stay at Domus for up to a year, most spending at least four to six months at the facility. It partners with several area organizations, including Anna Marie’s Alliance.

Diapers are not eligible for purchase through food stamps or the Women, Infant, and Child (WIC) program.

The diaper drive is specifically for sizes three to six. They can be dropped off at the St. Cloud Thrivent office until Friday, the 23rd, at 2700 1st St N, Suite 100.

The office is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. A drop off bin will be located at the building for after-hours donations.

Cordie says the group takes donations year-round, mostly essentials like conditioner and shampoo, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, paper towels, and toilet paper. When the diaper drive is over, Cordie asks you to keep these items in the back of your mind.
