(KNSI) — The Tanner’s Team Foundation has received a whopper of a check as the community came together in a big way.
The money comes from the Sauk Rapids-Rice DECA Burger Battle competition, the Molitor’s Quarry Grill & Bar customers, and an extra helping hand thanks to Golden Gloves Boxing. Together, they raised $4,600 for Tanner’s Team.
Over 100 students in the DECA program devised 50 possible combos before whittling them down to 16 contenders. The brackets were pared down from there to eight, then four, and finally, two to determine the last burger standing.
That was the Egg-cellent Maple Burger. It’s for those who love breakfast any time. The item features the sweet/savory combo of a maple syrup coated patty topped with the morning staples of crispy hash browns, smoky bacon, and eggs prepared to your liking, all laid on a fluffy cinnamon egg wash bun.
As it was a sizzling success, the organization hopes to make this a recurring lesson plan.
DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) is an association of marketing students that encourages the development of business and leadership skills through academic conferences and competitions. The school’s club is the largest in Minnesota, with around 220 participants.

The item will be on the Molitor’s menu for the next year. Any Egg-cellent Maple Burger sold this year will continue to support Tanner’s Team Foundation.
The foundation was created in 2011 to help families in 45 counties with kids fighting life threatening illnesses. They assist with things like housing, transportation, and household costs incurred during their child’s care and treatment. It’s named after Tanner Fuls of Sauk Rapids, who was diagnosed at age 11 with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a form of pre-leukemia. He passed away in November of 2010.
