Royalton Man Sentenced for Producing Child Pornography

(KNSI) – A Royalton man has been sentenced to 16 years in federal prison after being convicted of producing child pornography.

According to court documents, in November 2022, 35-year-old Andrew John Groen contacted a minor using a messaging app and knew the girl was underage and pretending to be 19.

The United States Attorney’s Office says on multiple occasions, Groen coerced her to send sexually explicit pictures and sent the victim obscene images and links to pornography. He also encouraged her to have sex with a man.

In August, Groen pleaded guilty to one count of production and attempted production of child pornography. He will also need to register as a sex offender for 15 years after his release.

This case resulted from an investigation by the FBI and the Willmar Police Department.
