(KNSI) — The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources wants to gauge anglers’ attitudes on managing fish on three lakes in Stearns County.
The lakes are getting updated management plans in 2024, but before that happens, the DNR wants to know what the people using them think. That includes Two Rivers Lake north of Albany, Big Sauk Lake in Sauk Centre, and Little Birch Lake south of Grey Eagle.
“We want to hear from anyone interested in these fisheries,” said Jon Hansen, DNR fisheries management consultant. “Comments about experiences, observations, concerns and wishes for the fishery – rather than suggestions on how the DNR might accomplish a specific goal or objective – are the most helpful kinds of input.”
Representatives of lake associations, outdoor groups, conservation organizations, and local governments are encouraged to comment between now and the end of February.
Some questions to consider include:
“What kind of fishing experience are you looking for?”
“Are there fish habitat concerns you’d like to share?”
“What kinds of fish do you like to catch?”
“Do you like catching big fish or a lot of fish?”
“Do you have social concerns about the fishery?”
People who want to discuss management for a lake can call or email the area fisheries office listed for that lake.
It’s part of the DNR’s effort to get people’s two cents on overseeing the health of 112 bodies of water statewide. The DNR actively manages more than 4,000 lakes statewide.
