(KNSI) — The Buffalo Area Chamber of Commerce has canceled this coming weekend’s Kites on Ice Festival. It is held annually on the second Saturday of February.
Chamber President Sue Olmscheid told KNSI News last month that they had 20 kite fliers expecting to attend, with some from as far away as England. On top of the professionals, there were plans to pass out free kites to children in attendance. Food trucks, hot chocolate, and two tournaments were also scheduled. Pond hockey has been canceled, but the cornhole/bags contest is still happening. Details are being hammered out, but it is expected to take place at Bison Creek bar. The top team will take home $200.
Olmscheid says in a video posted online that Buffalo Lake did reach an ice depth of 14 inches during the cold snap in January but another round of record high temperatures, this time with significant sun, was too much in the end.
Sponsors will be given the option to automatically roll their support into 2025, which Olmscheid says can free up the Chamber to line up new backers. She says that will help make the 2025 edition the biggest ever.
