(KNSI) – Before he patrolled the corridors of St. Cloud City Hall, Mayor Dave Kleis was an elected official roaming the State Capitol.

Kleis says that experience gives him a better understanding of what it will take to get St. Cloud’s bonding proposals over the finish line. He was a senator for over a decade. “It was 30 years ago this year, in December, that I was elected in a special election to the Minnesota State Senate. I served for 11 years.”

Kleis says in his weekly address posted to social media that downtown revitalization and other efforts the city is seeking support for won’t happen without pressure being applied to lawmakers by staff and residents. He urges you to call and make an appeal, something he plans to do in person when the legislative session begins on Monday, February 12th.

“I’ll be down in St Paul, lobbying on behalf of the city’s issues. Of course, we have a bonding request for downtown, we’ve got roads, and other things.”

Kleis says he will be actively meeting with residents closer to home through February. In addition to his customary weekly town halls, Kleis is planning a 24-hour marathon near the end of the month.
