(KNSI) – A central Minnesota city will remember the victims of a mass shooting three years ago.
Buffalo Strong Week 2024 will focus on community and connection to improve mental health. Organizers say the next six days will include projects, events, and services.
All week long, the Wright County Justice Center will be illuminated in purple to honor the victims of the tragic event. The lights are visible on Highway 25, north of Buffalo. Residents and businesses are asked to light up their homes and buildings in purple this week to remind the victims, survivors and their families that they are supported and the community stands with them.
A candlelight vigil to remember the victims will take place on Thursday. The observation is meant to set aside time for the community to continue to heal.
Buffalo Floral & Landscaping has buy one, get one on purple stems for people to give away. The flower shop aims to spread kindness to neighbors and let them know they are cared for. Hayes’ Public House is offering food and drink specials all week long.
Buffalo Strong clothing and merchandise helps provide grants to individuals and families seeking financial support for mental health or wellness services.
On February 9th, 2021, a disgruntled patient walked into the Allina Crossroads Clinic and opened fire. He killed Lindsay Overbay, a married mother of two children, and wounded four others. In June 2022, Gregory Ulrich was convicted of second-degree murder and three counts of first-degree assault. He was sentenced to life in prison.
