(KNSI) – Minnesota Sixth District Congressman Tom Emmer is raising concerns to U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over terrorists entering the country illegally.
Emmer cites the website Daily Caller, which published an internal federal memo about an Al-Shabaab terrorist who was able to gain access to the country and lived in our state for nearly a year before finally being arrested on January 20th. The person has not been identified. It is believed that he came into the U.S. near San Ysidro, California.
He was initially flagged as a member of the terror group, but federal officials wrongly determined that there had been an error. The Terrorist Screening Center corrected its mistake after he was in the wind. The Daily Caller says the man was involved in arms trafficking before he was picked up again in Minnesota.
Emmer asks Mayorkas six questions in a letter addressed to the secretary. He wants the memo to be handed over to Congress and a briefing given to all members of the Minnesota delegation, which includes eight representatives and two senators. Emmer is also seeking information on how DHS is working to avoid making the same mistake again.
