(KNSI) — At a time when the Macarena was the latest craze sweeping the nation, and everyone raced home to watch Seinfeld and ER on Must See TV, Battalion Chief Steve Richardson joined the St. Cloud Fire Department.

Twenty-seven years later, he’s hanging up his hose for the last time. Richardson officially retired Wednesday morning, capping more than 36 years of service to the city. He started with the water department in 1988 and made the move to the fire hall in 1996.

A Facebook post by the St. Cloud Professional Firefighter IAFF Local 464 said, “Congratulations to Battalion Chief Steve Richardson on his well-deserved retirement. You will certainly be missed by your firefighters.”

Captain Ben Lundquist has been promoted to battalion chief to replace Richardson.

The St. Cloud Fire Department has nine openings and is taking applications until February 16th. Get more information by clicking here.
