(KNSI) – The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office says anglers need to use extreme caution on lakes in central Minnesota after two fishermen went through the ice and a stranded child needed to be rescued.

Deputies were called around 6:15 on Thursday night after two ATVs went through the ice on Lake Jennie, about four miles south of Dassel. A 64-year-old man from Hutchinson and an 18-year-old man from Dassel were fishing in two separate groups in the same area when they took an icy bath. Both men were able to make it back to the landing safely.

At the same time, a boy was lost on the lake due to fog. An airboat was used to find the child, and he was brought back to shore unharmed.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reminds anglers that ice is never 100% safe.
