(KNSI) – The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is forcing a central Minnesota construction company to pony up for failing to protect a wetland.

Alliance Building Corporation in Sauk Rapids has been fined $10,318 for stormwater violations. The MPCA says the company failed to properly stabilize soils and control sediment from washing away during the construction of the Birch Spring Apartment Homes in Cold Spring.

In April 2023, inspectors found no proper working controls for exposed soil. The project also needed redundant controls like double silt fencing, which is required when digging within 50 feet of a waterway. The project was near a wetland.

Along with paying the civil penalty, the MPCA says Alliance Building has made all corrective actions to to bring it back in compliance.

KNSI News has reached out to the company for comment.
