(KNSI) – The River’s Edge Convention Center will resemble Bourbon Street during the 42nd Annual Catholic Charities Mardi Gras gala next week.

It’s the largest fundraiser of the year for the organization. Catholic Charities Acting Executive Director Renae Sternke says this is one of her favorite events. “The fun thing with Mardi Gras is that it’s a party. And we get to celebrate with all of our neighbors, friends, and supporters. We consider it a celebration with a cause. So, it’s not only a fundraiser; it’s a friend-raiser.”

Guest will be treated to dancing, games, a gourmet meal, Hors d’oeuvres, live music, and a silent auction.

Sternke explained what the money raised would be used for. “This event primarily benefits two Catholic Charities programs. Our emergency services food shelf and our Domus transitional housing program. Both programs are wonderful at serving individuals in our local community.”

In 2023, the food shelf gave out over two million pounds in 2023 and averages serving more than 1,500 households a month. Domus transitional housing helps mothers with young children escape domestic abuse, move from a drug rehab center, or get back on their feet after suffering homelessness.

The 2023 event raised more than $350,000. This year’s event takes place on Saturday, January 27th, from 5:00 to ll:30 p.m.
