(KNSI) – The recent cold snap has at least one benefit, it’s allowed some area ice skating rinks to open for the season.

Pucks are flying at hockey rinks at both St. Cloud’s Northway and Schmidt Park. Pleasure skating is available at Seaberger Park. All three rinks will have the lights on from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. Staff says Lake George still has several areas of thin ice, making it unsafe for the public to use. It will be reevaluated this week.

Sauk Rapids also opened its rinks at Pleasantview and Oakridge Park. The warming houses will be available from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The ice skating rinks will be closed if temperatures fall more than 10 degrees below zero, including windchill.
