(KNSI) – Saint John’s Abbey has elected its 11th leader.
Douglas Mullin was chosen as abbot to replace John Klassen, who recently retired after turning 75 years old. Mullin has been a member of the abbey since 1979. He was ordained as a priest in 2007 and has held the positions of Vice President of Student Affairs at Saint John’s University and chaplain at the St. Cloud VA. He was born in Texas in 1954.
The election wrapped up fairly quickly, as it could have lasted until Thursday if necessary. It was organized by Abbot Augustine J. Curley from Newark, New Jersey.
Abbot Douglas will be blessed by Bishop Patrick Neary of the Diocese of St. Cloud in a service set for January 28th at 4:00 p.m. The blessing will occur at University Church of Saint John the Baptist in Collegeville.
