(KNSI) — The City of Sartell is putting on a series of interactive information sessions regarding the future of the former Mill site, which is now called “the Mill District.”
The sessions aim to share the city’s plans, hopes, and dreams for the redevelopment of the spot where the Verso Paper Mill stood from 1905, when it opened as Watab Pulp and Paper, until it was torn down following the tragic and deadly explosion in May 2012.
There are two options for the Mill District Information Sessions.
One is pop up style, which allows the public to look at provisional concept plans through traveling information boards. It’s a more informal come and go experience. Community members can also provide feedback and ideas at those sessions. There will be Spot On and Missed the Mark stickers for people to let the city and planners know if their ideas and concepts were spot on or if they missed the mark.
The other is an interactive session meant to go more in depth. It will be structured with a brief overview of concept plans and framework.
City officials say both options allow residents to learn more about the envisioned future of the Mill District, share their insights, and actively contribute to the decision-making process.
The first opportunity to get a look at the plans is Monday, January 8th with two pop ups. One is at Magnifi Financial from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and the other is at Sartell Vibe from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The interactive session is set for that evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Sartell Community Center.
Tuesday, January 9th, there will also be two pop ups. One is at 2nd Street Coffee from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., and the other is at the Waters Church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The interactive session is from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Sartell Community Center.
A press release from the city says it encourages “alll community members to attend these sessions, voice their opinions, and actively participate in shaping the future of the Mill District. Your input is invaluable in ensuring that the redevelopment aligns with the community’s vision and aspirations.”
