(KNSI) – Powder Ridge may have had a chance at surviving record-warm temperatures, but over two inches of rain have left the runs at the local ski hill in disrepair.

Staff closed the area down for Christmas Eve with hopes of opening on the 26th. On Tuesday, they were forced to call another audible and stay closed until a late start on Wednesday. Powder Ridge will now resume operations at 3:00 p.m. on the 27th.

The tubing area is expected to be shuttered until at least Friday. The hill will announce any other changes on its website and social media. A link to its Facebook page is here.

Normal operating hours are 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. for skiing and snowboarding. Tubing is typically 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during winter break. Powder Ridge says that anyone who pre-purchased equipment, lessons, or passes will be contacted by staff for a refund.

Ideal snowmaking conditions require temperatures to fall to at least 28 degrees Fahrenheit. That threshold will be hit overnight for the rest of the week, but high temperatures are expected to reach the mid-to-upper 30s until the weekend, which will complicate reopening.
