(KNSI) — If you’re removing the lights from the Christmas tree or taking them off your house, if you come across strands that no longer work, don’t throw them away.
WACOSA in St. Cloud has two donation bins to drop off lights for recycling. One is at DocuShred Document Shredding. Lights can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. DocuShred is at 321 Sundial Drive in Waite Park. The other is at ThriftWorks! Thrift Store. The donation bin is available from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The store is at 310 Sundial Drive in Waite Park.
According to its website, WACOSA started the holiday light recycling program to create work opportunities for some adults with disabilities who receive services at WACOSA. The lights are collected and then turned over to WACOSA’s clients, who remove the bulb from the string of lights. Once the bulbs are removed, the wire is then recycled. The revenue from the recycled cord is part of what is used to pay the clients who work on the light recycling job.
WACOSA takes lights year round.
