(KNSI) – The Cold Spring Fire Hall will be front and center at Wednesday’s city council meeting.
The group will hear a presentation from Jessica Green of Northland Securities on how to finance the project, which is now estimated to cost over $8.6 million. Green will talk about Capital Improvement Plan bonds.
Officials are also exploring a potential loan from the United States Department of Agriculture Community Facilities Loan Program to help offset some of the costs. The council should grant the mayor and city administrator authority to submit an application to the federal agency.
The council is expected to authorize the architect to begin designing the roughly 16,000-square-foot structure. Plans call for five apparatus bays, a gear locker, a self-contained breathing apparatus locker, a training room and conference center, and more. The building would be mostly a single story.
The city has already bought the land for the project. It purchased a lot from Cold Spring Granite in April. The new fire hall and an initiative to add a standalone library will allow the police department and government offices to be expanded at what is now a cramped municipal building.
