(KNSI) – Central Minnesota’s largest private school system has named a new president.

Catholic Community Schools Superintendent David Fremo has been promoted and will report to his new post on January 2nd. He’s been CCS’s superintendent for the last four years and director of the Catholic Education Ministries office for the Diocese of St. Cloud.

“We could not find a more qualified or committed person than David Fremo to become the new president of Catholic Community Schools,” said Bishop Patrick Neary. “He is not only an expert in the field of education, but a man who understands the core mission of Catholic schools. To prepare young people through learning and formation in faith and values, for lifelong discipleship and service to others. I am confident that his vision, as well as his ability to mentor and collaborate with others, will prove a great blessing to the students, teachers, and staff of our Catholic Community Schools.”

The CCS board considered multiple candidates and chose Fremo because of his extensive background in Catholic education. He earned a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University in Collegeville, a master of arts in theology from the St. John’s seminary school, and a master’s degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He is working on a doctorate from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois.

He replaces Scott Warzecha, who resigned as CCS president in April.

To help with the transition, the school system has promoted Sara Michaelson as the interim superintendent. Bishop Neary made the move until a permanent superintendent is found. Michaelson is the director of learning and teaching and will oversee all 27 Catholic schools in the 16-county diocese. She will start in her new role next month.

The CCS board says Michaelson brings a variety of skills to the interim superintendent position, including educational
leadership, curriculum development, relationship building, coaching, and administration.

“I am very pleased that Sara will be serving as our interim superintendent of Catholic schools in the Diocese of St. Cloud,” Bishop Neary said. “Sara is a very gifted and experienced educator, with a diverse skill set that will help advance the core mission of our Catholic schools. Our principals, teachers, staff, and students will love her passion, her enthusiasm, and how warm and approachable she is. We are so blessed to have her on board.”

The Catholic Community Schools system includes All Saints Academy in St. Cloud, Cathedral High and Middle School in St. Cloud, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in St. Cloud, St. Francis Xavier in Sartell, St. Joseph School in St. Joseph, St. Katharine Drexel in St. Cloud, and St. Mary Help of Christians in St. Augusta.
