(KNSI) – Stearns County officials are asking residents for their opinions on how the county is doing and where they need improvement.

A survey has been mailed out to all county residents that came with the winter newsletter. Assistant Stearns County Administrator Steve Hammes explained it’s a tool to gauge where people want them to focus their attention in the next few years. “We’re using the same questions for the most part from the 2018, one to the one today, to be able to compare how different departments and how the county residents feel between the two years on how working with the county is.”

Hammes believes the more people that participate, the better the results. “Getting everyone’s opinion is important. The only way for us to improve is to hear from citizens about what they like and the areas that they have concerns about. So it’s important to help us do better to serve them to make this happen.”

More than 12,000 households responded to the 2018 survey, which equates to about 15% of the population. So far, 8,000 surveys have been returned. Residents have until December 28th to let their two cents be known.

The county should have the results back in the first quarter of 2024.
