(KNSI) — Plower to the People? Taylor Drift? Sled Zeppelin? Do you have a creative name for a Minnesota Department of Transportation snowplow? Because MnDOT’s Name a Snowplow Contest is back.
For the fourth year in a row, the agency is looking to name eight more of its plows, one for each district, in 2024.
Witty, unique, winter-friendly, or Minnesota-centric names are encouraged. Each person may only submit one name, and submissions are limited to no more than 30 characters, including letters and spaces. From the website, they say, “Gosh darn it, nothing vulgar, please. Any submissions that include profanity or other inappropriate language will not be considered.”
If you were thinking of going with Aaron Brrr, Abrrrham Lincoln or Brrrack Obambrrr, forget it. Naming snowplows is meant to be fun and lighthearted, so the contest will be nonpartisan and nonpolitical. Politically themed submissions and names that play on a politician’s name will also not be considered.
Past winners include Plowy McPlowface, Duck Duck Orange Truck, Blader Tot Hotdish, Betty Whiteout, and Control, Salt, Delete.
Submissions are open until December 15th at 12:00 p.m. MnDOT staff will review all the submissions, select some of the best ideas, and invite the public to vote on their favorites in January 2024.
