(KNSI) — The Great Seal of the State of Minnesota has been chosen.
The State Emblems Redesign Commission unanimously voted to move forward with design S224 as the basis for the next state seal.
Aspects of it may be changed or modified, such as the dates, language, design of the stars, and the color of the loon’s eye. When the bird is in its full color summer plumage, its eyes are red. In the winter, when it sheds the multi-colored feathers for a furry gray plumage in the winter, its eyes are also gray.
The Commissioners also considered testimony from the public.
The next step is to discuss design modifications, which will happen at the commission’s next meeting on December 12th. That same day, the Commissioners will continue to debate the new state flag design using the six selected. Design F29 featuring the North Star with a snowflake on a blue background, was the one chosen by ranked choice voting.
The group must adopt the new design and flag by January 1st.
