(KNSI) – It was another bountiful Thanksgiving for Faith Feeds MN.
The nonprofit served “over 2,050 meals to the community, including Place of Hope, Lincoln Center, and other homeless centers. Agape Ministry took some. We had some delivered all the way down to the cities,” according to founder Ben Prigge.
The organization started in 2020 after a bible study session with the theme “What are you doing to show God’s love to others?” With the COVID-19 pandemic having just set in earlier in the year, Prigge says he noticed a lot of friends and family were out of work as they were deemed non-essential.
They did just 89 meals that first year, but it has only grown from there. This year, it has expanded to the point that Prigge and his wife had to borrow the commercial kitchen at St. Joseph’s Parish and employed an army of 80 volunteers to pull it off.
He says the success is also due to financial support from the community, churches and other nonprofits.
The other major holiday for the organization is Easter, and the Prigges foot most of the bill themselves.
“At Easter time, especially, we don’t get really any fundraising at all. And so it’s always a little bit of a tight struggle trying to figure out how to make things meet, where we’re not dropping $10,000 to $15,000 to try to feed for the meal. Because each meal cost us about $5 to $6. And so when we’re serving 2,000 people to 3,000 people, they can cost up to $18,000.”
