(KNSI) – Americans will have to fork over less money to pay for this year’s Thanksgiving dinner.

The American Farm Bureau Federation says, on average, a classic feast for ten will cost just over $61, which is about a 4.5% decrease from last year’s record of $64.05.

Locally, Lunds & Byerly’s General Manager Walter Schwartz explained while a Turkey Day meal can be a bargain, overall food prices are up. “The average inflation this year versus last year is 8% to 12%. And that’s market-wide. I do believe, and this is from the bottom of my heart, that we do have the best prices in town. We are within 3% of any city store. And I know that undercuts most of our competition in town other than your big boxes.”

Some big-box stores, such as Target, are offering dinner for four for about $30. Lunds & Byerlys Deli does the full dinners for groups of up to 10, and they remain at the same prices as last year.

Schwartz says the rush to stock up for Turkey Day starts now. “This weekend, we’ll be really busy. And Monday is usually a little slower day, and then Tuesday and Wednesday will just be nuts.”

Lunds & Byerlys is stocked and ready for the mayhem with tons of sales.
