(KNSI) – A man will spend more than two decades behind bars for killing his grandmother with a tomahawk-type hatchet in central Minnesota.

Kanabec County deputies were called in September of 2022, to the 1300 block off Highway 23 in Ogilvie, where they found 93-year-old Stella Anderson. According to the criminal complaint, she was found on a couch suffering from “obvious homicidal violence.” A report shows she was struck at least seven times in the head.

Evidence pointed to her grandson, 43-year-old Dustin Gene Tinklenberg. He pleaded guilty in August to second-degree murder. The Ogilvie man was sentenced this week to 26 years in prison.

According to court records, when asked about his grandmother’s death, Tinklenberg told police she had somehow manipulated/altered the bacon he was eating, and he “lost it.” Tinklenberg believed drones were following him around and he was under surveillance. He also reported that someone performed surgeries on him that scarred his body, although investigators stated he didn’t have any scars.

Tinklenberg was homeless and would stay at his grandmother’s from time to time.
