(KNSI) – Few things say the holiday season like a giant red kettle.
It’s not quite a belly like a bowlful of jelly, but the Salvation Army campaign has become synonymous with the Christmas and New Year’s season. It officially kicks off Friday night at the Coborn’s store in Sauk Rapids.
Sponsors have plenty of fun planned between 5:00 and 7:00. Leighton Events Director Tara Traut says, “99.9 Lite FM is Christmas station, so we will be there playing music. They will also have free coffee, hot cocoa, and cookies.”
The Joyce Linn Primerica office in Sauk Rapids also sponsors the event. Red kettles will be set up at all area Coborn’s and Cash-Wise locations. Beginning on the 18th, they’ll also be in front of Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores.
The goal is $182,000 in donations for this year’s Red Kettle campaign. St. Cloud Salvation Army Volunteer, Special Events and Red Kettle Coordinator Laura Douvier says that is a little below last year, but they think they’ll be able to surpass the mark with some help weather-wise. You have a chance to give for the next six weeks.
Douvier says, “They start today, November 10, and it ends Christmas Eve. However, Christmas Eve is on Sunday, the 24th, and we don’t ring on Sunday, so it will end at 7:00 pm on December 23rd.”
St. Cloud Salvation Army is still looking for volunteers. If you would like to be a bell ringer, go here.
